The Grossman Challenge II

In October 2015, the Grossman Family Foundation, established by Steven Grossman ’61, a long-time supporter of UVM’s business school and a member of the UVM Foundation board, contributed $20 million to the business school.  It was the largest gift in UVM’s history at that time and the University named the Grossman School of Business to honor this extraordinary gift.

But Steven Grossman did not stop there.  Instead, he enlisted the support of the entire UVM community by creating the $10 million “Grossman Challenge.”  Nearly 400 alumni, parents, friends, corporations, and foundations stepped up, donating $10.1 million for the Business School addition (Ifshin Hall), as well as new and existing endowments designated for scholarships, professorships, educational programs, student services, and general support of the School.  Their generosity unlocked a $10 million matching gift from the Grossman Family Foundation.

Inspired by the passion and dedication of his fellow supporters during the first Grossman Challenge, Mr. Grossman is now offering donors a new opportunity to double the impact of their giving. With the Grossman Challenge II, the Grossman Family Foundation is making a further $5 million available to encourage others to increase the School’s endowed support and help build the foundation for generations of future success.

All gift commitments up to a total of $5 million to new or existing endowments at the Grossman School of Business made prior to June 30, 2021 help move us closer to meeting the Grossman Challenge II. The Grossman Family Foundation will generously match these new gift commitments by contributing up to $5 million more to the School’s endowment.

Donations eligible for the Grossman Challenge II match include gifts to:

  • New endowments (minimum gift of $50,000)
  • Existing endowments for scholarships, professorships, and programs
  • The Grossman School of Business Endowment
  • Janus Forum Debate Series
