William ‘Bill’ Rowland ’77

Director

After graduating from UVM, Bill went to law school at the George Washington University National Law Center.  Bill is now a shareholder at the law firm Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney, specializing in patent law.  He is licensed to practice law in several state and Federal courts, as well as at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.  Most of Bill’s clients are international technology driven companies located in Europe and Asia.

Bill’s professional time is spent consulting with engineers, inventors, and business managers and lecturing at various organizations concerning the latest developments in US patent law.  He also spends a great deal of time mentoring younger lawyers at his firm.

Bill is proud of the fact that he keeps in close contact with at least twenty of his closest friends – all of whom lived together in Buckham Hall while at UVM!

Bill lives in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife Rachel and cat, Dixie.  They have two children, Bill (civil engineering – Virginia Tech) and Alice (civil engineering – Cornell), who live adjacent to each other in nearby Annandale – both working in the real estate industry doing things that Dad does not really understand.
