Harsimran (Simran) Multani is a member of the Larner College of Medicine Class of 2027. Originally from western Massachusetts, she studied Biology at Boston University before working as a clinical research coordinator in gastrointestinal oncology at UCLA, where she developed an interest in academic medicine and caring for patients with cancer. She plans to pursue a career in Internal Medicine with the goal of specializing in Hematology-Oncology.

Throughout her time at Larner, Simran has been drawn to projects that make medical training more approachable and collaborative. She has been actively involved in student leadership, mentorship, and medical education, serving as a class representative and Chair of the Student Education Committee. In these roles, she helped develop the Step 1 Guide, Clerkship Guide, and Career Information Sessions while leading initiatives to strengthen communication between students and faculty. She has also served as a peer tutor, MedMentors mentor, admissions ambassador, and co-leader of the Hematology-Oncology Student Interest Group. Through these experiences, she has come to appreciate that some of the most meaningful moments in medicine come from supporting others, whether helping a classmate prepare for an exam, mentoring a new student, or simply being someone people know they can turn to.

Simran's research interests include oncology, palliative care, and health equity. She has contributed to projects in surgical oncology, palliative care for patients with high-grade glioma, immigrant health in Vermont, and improving healthcare access for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She has been fortunate to share this work at meetings including the Association of American Medical Colleges, the American Society of Clinical Oncology Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium, and the American Public Health Association.

Looking back on her time at Larner, Simran is most grateful for the mentors, classmates, and patients who have shaped her journey. Being a first-generation college and medical student has reinforced for her the importance of mentorship, community, and creating opportunities for others to succeed. She is grateful for the opportunity to support her peers through student leadership, mentorship, and medical education, and hopes to carry those same values forward throughout her career as a physician.
