James Bentil '13
2023
James Bentil is the immediate past chair of the UVM Alumni Association's National NextGen Council, a role which he held from September 2020 through June 2023.
James was an inspiring leader for the NextGen program, which aims to strengthen the relationship between UVM and Catamounts who have graduated within the past ten years. NextGen volunteers in five key regions - Vermont, Boston, New York City, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. - plan and coordinate events that help keep younger graduates connected to each other, and to the work of the University and the UVM Alumni Association.
Time and again, James proved himself adept at driving the program's success through goal setting, membership recruitment, event development, and relationship building. In addition to his NextGen service, James is active in career-oriented activities that help UVM students prepare for success after graduation. James's passion for UVM and commitment to the UVM community has been felt by many in the NextGen program and far beyond.
James earned a Bachelor's in Business Administration from UVM in 2013. As a student, he was a member of the UVM Economics Club, worked on the Howe Library Student Administrative Staff, and was a teaching assistant in the Mathematics & Statistics Department. After graduating, James worked in the Burlington office for the United States Attorney of Vermont before joining the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, where he is currently a supervisory analyst for performance, data, quality, and innovation. He resides in Burlington with his wife, Emma (Hennessey) Bentil '15.
