Outstanding Young Alumni Award Recipients

Celebrating recent graduates making an early impact in their communities and professions

Adam Roof '11

2021

Adam exemplifies outstanding civic engagement in his community as an alumnus, just as he did as a student at UVM.

His service as a student on the UVM Board of Trustees and his role as a member of the Dean of Students Advisory Board and Academic Integrity Council foreshadowed the types of pursuits he would undertake as a resident of Burlington following his graduation in 2011. As a Burlington City Councilor for five years representing residents around the UVM campus, including many students, faculty and staff, Adam played an important role in helping to improve "town-gown" relations.

He helped to institute measures aimed at enhancing public safety on and off campus, while also building community-based responses to addressing quality of life and housing issues facing surrounding neighborhoods. An ardent promoter of Burlington, Adam has been a speaker at a number of conferences discussing institutional partnerships and innovative nightlife economy management. He also has twice led a delegation to Yaroslavl, Russia as part of Burlington's Sister City exchange program. Adam distinguished himself as one of the youngest members of the City Council by working effectively across partisan divides and building coalitions that achieved results.

Adam's experience as a tech-savvy small business owner prepared him well for his leadership role as the executive director of BTV Ignite, a consortium of Burlington businesses, nonprofits, and governmental offices focused on harnessing Burlington's world-class fiber optic infrastructure to promote economic development and to address the social, educational, and environmental challenges facing the city.

Adam is also the founder of Cobble Knoll Consulting Group, which advises businesses, nonprofits, and political operations on a range of strategic communications and policy development needs. At UVM, Adam majored in political science and was a member of the Boulder Society, the senior men's honor society. Adam currently resides in Burlington, VT.
