Multi-Purpose Center

Support UVM Catamount athletics and the new multi-purpose center.

“The Multipurpose Center project will be a game-changer for UVM and the state of Vermont."

Dr. Marlene Tromp, President, University of Vermont

We’ve accomplished a lot since 2019, including a group fitness hub and multi-use activity court for all students, new locker rooms for the Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey teams, and new athletic training and academic success spaces for varsity athletes.

There are four signature elements of the project still remaining.

  1. The Tarrant Center for Men’s and Women’s Basketball, as well as concerts, lectures, conferences, and a variety of programming for UVM and the citizens of Vermont.

  2. Major renovations to Gutterson Fieldhouse, where our Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey teams play.

  3. Transforming Patrick Gym into a new recreation and wellness center for the UVM community to use.

  4. Creating a Victory Club space that feels comfortable, accessible, and worthy of our most loyal Catamount fans.

When we complete this project

  • Our student-athletes will have facilities that match their prowess on the court or ice.

  • Our students will have access to much-needed spaces for health and well-being and community-building.

  • Our loyal fans will be able to cheer on the Catamounts in modern and comfortable spaces that will make them want to come back again and again.

  • The people of Vermont will have a welcoming place to attend events, including conferences, lectures, and concerts. Public schools around the state will be able to host academic and athletic events in what will be Vermont’s premier event space.

  • Our alumni and donors will have a destination on campus where they can attend events, making new memories and reuniting with friends.

We believe in this project because of what it will provide to our entire Catamount community as well as to Vermonters and visitors from around the world.

What this project means for UVM

Facilities that Match Student-Athlete Excellence

We’re at the top of the America East Conference and we want it to stay that way. New facilities help recruiting, training, and performance.

A New Tool for Admissions

Beyond student-athletes, the new Multipurpose Center will help us attract the best and brightest to UVM. Competition for students in the admissions process has never been fiercer. State-of-the-art facilities can give us an edge.

Health and Wellness for All

This project is for the entire study body. The next phase will substantially add to recreation and wellness spaces - giving students opportunities to keep their bodies healthy, while excelling in the classroom

What this project means for Vermont

A New Economic Driver

New facilities will attract more fans to games. More concert-goers. More conference attendees. And those people will spend more at local restaurants, hotels, and shops - adding important fuel to the Vermont economy.

A Boost for Burlington

UVM and Burlington are intertwined - there isn’t one without the other. The Multipurpose Center will give a boost to Burlington. With the city and developers completing projects in the downtown corridor, adding a new venue will act as a catalyst to bring more visitors to town.

A Gathering Place for the Entire State

Nearly 20 years ago, the Dudley H. Davis Center emerged as the go-to venue for student gatherings, conferences, and galas. The Multipurpose Center will be the next go-to venue for much larger events for everyone in the state. Imagine thousands gathering to hear a nationally-renowned speaker. Or seeing your favorite band perform. Or watching your child walk across the stage at graduation. This will be a place for all Vermonters.
