About the Namesake and Fund
With the passing of Tim Bates, the UVM community lost one of our most accomplished faculty members and scholars. Prior to his passing, Tim and his wife Beth established the Dr. Timothy M. and Dr. Beth T. Bates Tuition Scholarship for Vermont Students at UVM. They desired to ensure a college education was within reach for deserving Vermont students who might not otherwise be able to attend the university.
As benefactors of multiple college degrees, Tim and Beth have felt the transformative impact of education and want to make that possible for others. Please consider a gift in Tim’s memory that will empower Vermont students to pursue their studies at UVM.
Additional information
Dr. Bates spent more than 16 years at The University of Vermont and had a very distinguished career publishing well over 100 scholarly articles and 5 books in economics and urban planning. Tim’s Money and Banking courses at UVM were sought after and he became a trusted advisor and mentor to countless UVM students and alumni.
