Bernard E. Palmer '75

2021

Bernard Palmer's dedicated volunteer service on behalf of the University of Vermont has spanned nearly four decades and touched virtually all of the Alumni Association's program areas.

He has served on the Alumni Association's Board of Directors and its New York Regional Board. He has been an active career networking and admissions volunteer, and he has been a member of diversity and athletic committees.

Bernard's expertise as a human resources manager at Time Warner Inc. and later with the New York City Department of Education, coupled with zeal for career networking, made him a much sought-after mentor for UVM students seeking career advice. He was an early adopter of offering job shadowing experiences for students before it became a formalized program through UVM's Career Center, and he has remained an active participant for decades.

He has been a leader behind the growth in programming for students and alumni of color, especially in the area of career networking. Bernard has been a key part of career networking events on campus, as well as those held in the Greater New York City region, and he has been instrumental in recruiting fellow alumni to become involved in these programs. It is common for the students who have received a helping hand from Bernard Palmer to stay in touch with him after graduation and to pay it forward by becoming mentors themselves.

Bernard received his B.S. in Business Administration from UVM in 1975 and his M.B.A. from the University of Cincinnati in 1978. He and his wife Barbara live in the Bronx, NY.
