About the award:
Few names are as synonymous with vision, generosity, and devotion to the University of Vermont as Eugene ’50, HON’98 and Joan Kalkin HON’98. Together, they embodied the spirit of philanthropy and leadership that has shaped UVM. Both Eugene and Joan received honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from UVM in 1998. Eugene was also honored with the university’s Legacy of Leadership Award and the Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award.
In 2018, the UVM Foundation proudly established its most prestigious honor—the Eugene and Joan Kalkin Lifetime Distinguished Leadership Award—in recognition of their exceptional contributions. Fittingly, the Kalkins were the inaugural recipients.
The Kalkin Award is awarded selectively to those who have made multidimensional commitments to UVM and the UVM Foundation over an extended period of time and have dramatically affected the lives of others.
It recognizes those who have made UVM a top priority among their philanthropic commitments, who have held volunteer leadership roles of significance, and who have inspired others to increase their commitment of time, talent, and treasure to UVM.
