Creating a Professorship
Elevate academic excellence
Why Create a Professorship?
Establishing an endowed professorship is one of the most powerful acts a donor can do to further the academic mission of the University. The greatest institutions have the best minds, the most-creative researchers, and the most-engaged teachers. Building the strongest cadre of faculty talent enriches the academic environment, which attracts the brightest students.
Professorships are the highest honor that can be bestowed on a faculty member.
Not only will your gift create your permanent legacy, your gift is also the most effective means of nurturing outstanding scholars at the University of Vermont.

1. Get in touch with us
We'll help get you started and answer all of your questions.
2. Select an Academic Area
Your professorship can be established within an academic department or program - or at a school or college level, making it eligible to any exceptional faculty member within it.
3. Name a Fund
Name the professorship after yourself, in memory of a beloved family member or friend, or for an influential faculty member on campus.
4. Make Your Commitment
Fund it in one lump sum or over a period of 1-5 years. Gifts can be made with cash, through a donor-advised fund, a family foundation, or with gifts of appreciated property or securities. You can also establish it through a legacy gift, like a gift in your Will (bequest).
