Mollie Newton '24 was born in Burlington, Vt. sometime in 1903 and attended Burlington High School. During her time as a University of Vermont student, Mollie was a Literary Scientific major and boarded some of the time at the Young Women's Christian Association. 

We know Mollie received a small scholarship to support her studies. She had many interests and extracurricular activities, serving as President of the St. Hilda's Guild and on the Class Executive Committee and on Committee for the Football Hop. She also participated in the Glee Club, Basketball, the French Play, Stringed Instrument Club, and served as Deutscher Verein Secretary.

After she married civil engineer Gordon Baldwin, Mollie became known as Mary Newton Baldwin.

Mollie, or Mary Newton Baldwin, was also a poet and wrote under her married name. On March 15th, 1947, Mary Newton Baldwin created The Poetry Society of Vermont. She was a long believer that "there ought to be a statewide organization for poetry."
