Below you will find our collected videos in the order they were meant to be watched, as well as archived articles from the digital research project, '24: Then and Now. Enjoy!
"The Memory Keepers: Part 1"
Join us for Part 1 of '24: Then and Now, for an overview on what this project is and why it came to be.
"The Memory Keepers: Part 2"
In Part 2, we delve more into the Memory Keepers -- the makers of the scrapbooks -- and their lives as students at UVM in the early 1920s.
"Student Reactions"
We're back with '24: Then and Now.
In this episode, UVM students sit down with the scrapbooks as we capture their reactions and thoughts. With big thanks to the Student Alumni Association!
"The Front Matter"
Episode 3 is all about the first few pages of the Memory Books, a place where classmates could jot down their names and happy thoughts -- as well as provide a little self-portrait.
As always, with very special thanks to our friends at the Silver Special Collections Library at the UVM Billings Library.
"UVM in the 1920s"
In this episode, we sit down with Chris Burns, Interim Director at the UVM Silver Special Collections Library and dive into the 1920s history, at UVM and beyond.
"Building UVM"
Now we'll explore topographical changes on campus, as we chart its expansion and contraction through the years.
"Exams from 100 Years Ago"
Would you be able to pass an exam from 100 years ago? Well, we found a whole bunch of exams from a variety of subjects - including a very unusual English exam - and we wanted to share them with you. We also asked two members of our English faculty to weigh in on this exam - and created a video for you to watch.
"Dishing on Menus and All Things Food with Dr. Amy Trubek"
We sat down with cultural anthropologist and chef, Dr. Amy Trubek to learn about menus and dining in the early 1920s.
"Stories from the 1920s Descendants"
As we embarked upon this project, we found ourselves wishing we could speak to some of the UVM students who were on campus during the 1920s. And we happened upon the next best thing - speaking with their descendants.
It turns out there are more than 300 current alumni and friends who have relatives who were on campus during the 1920s.
We sent them all a letter to ask if they'd want to learn more about the project and to tell us more about their relatives. Here are those stories.
